How it works
To add VAT, multiply the price before VAT by the rate: at 11%, 100 becomes 100 plus 11, so 111.
To remove VAT from a price that includes it, divide by 1 plus the rate, not multiply by the rate. At 11%, 111 divided by 1.11 is 100, so the VAT inside is 11. Taking 11% of 111 would give 12.21, which is wrong: that is the mistake this tool exists to prevent.
Choose 11%, 12% or type another rate. Results show two decimals in dollars and whole numbers in lira.
Worked example
A service is priced at 100 USD before VAT. At 11%, the VAT is 11 USD and the customer pays 111 USD.
The other way: a receipt says 111 USD including VAT. 111 divided by 1.11 is 100 USD before VAT, and the VAT is 11 USD.
The rate, and when we checked it
On 2026-09-26 we checked the standard VAT rate in Lebanon: it is 11%, according to PwC Worldwide Tax Summaries (page last reviewed 2026-07-01).
In February 2026 the Council of Ministers approved raising VAT to 12%. That change needs a law passed by Parliament, and the sources we checked on 2026-09-26 did not show it in force. That is why 12% is one tap away: if the law passes, switch to it.
Some goods and services are exempt or zero-rated, and registration depends on turnover. Check your own situation with the Ministry of Finance or your accountant.
Questions and answers
What is the VAT rate in Lebanon?
The standard rate is 11%, as we checked on 2026-09-26. A rise to 12% was approved by the Council of Ministers in February 2026 but needs a law from Parliament; we did not find it in force on 2026-09-26.
How do I remove VAT from a price that includes it?
Divide the price by 1.11 (at 11%). The result is the price before VAT, and the difference is the VAT. Do not take 11% of the total: that overstates the VAT.
Does every business have to charge VAT?
No. Registration depends on your turnover and activity, and some goods and services are exempt. PwC reports a registration threshold of LBP 5 billion of turnover over one to four consecutive quarters, set by the 2024 Budget Law. Confirm with the Ministry of Finance or an accountant.
Can I use it for prices in lira?
Yes. Choose LBP and the results are rounded to whole lira. The arithmetic is the same in any currency.
